DIY: Fix Scratched Glasses
Posted on by Interns AreAwesome
There is no need to throw away glasses that are damaged by scratches. There is a simple, cheap way to get rid of almost all scratches.
Supplies:
- Scratched Glasses
- Microfiber Lens Cloth (or Cotton Balls)
- Toothpaste

- Toothpaste
Make sure the toothpaste is non-whitening and non-abrasive, as both could cause further damage to your glasses. I found this Colgate at Albertsons for less than $3. It's a good idea to have a microfiber cloth on hand, as they are the safest for keeping glasses clean. If you have cotton balls laying around your house though, those will work as well.
Put a small amount of toothpaste directly onto the front of the lens. Slowly take your cloth or cotton ball and rub the toothpaste in circular motions.
After 10 seconds, fully wash the lens with only cold water until all toothpaste is off. Dry them completely and check if the scratches are gone. If you have deep scratches you may have to repeat this process about 2 to 3 times. Make sure the lenses are completely dry before putting more toothpaste on.
This process may not work for deeper scratches but should work for surface level scratches.
